Teen prisoners armed with knife escape custody at Grafton

A PRISONER involved in the alleged theft of a Juvenile Justice van at Grafton on Sunday may be in the Casino area, police believe.

Coffs Clarence Local Area Command duty officer Inspector Brendan Gorman said police were called to North Street, Grafton, about 4.30pm on Sunday after four teenagers allegedly threatened two security officers with a knife.

The two security officers, along with one detainee, got out of the van and were not injured.

The four teenagers, three aged 18 and one 15-year-old, remained in the van and left the scene.

The van was located on Redgum Road at South Grafton; however, the four offenders had not been located.

Insp Gorman said one of the 18-year-old men was from Casino.

"When police attended an address at South Grafton last night two of the offenders ran from the scene," he said.

"The offenders haven't been seen since 4am this morning."

"At this stage police are still conducting enquiries about as to where the offenders went from Grafton."

Police are appealing to the public for information on the teenagers.

The three 18-year-olds were described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, with heights ranging between 150cm and 170cm tall, with medium build and black hair.

The 15-year-old, is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 150cm to 155cm tall, with a thin build and brown hair.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Grafton police on 6642 0222 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
