'Prize' a dead cert

SOME lucky person will walk away from an auction on Wednesday well prepared for their departure from this earth.

A coffin is one of the items to be put up for auction at the Yaralla and Bullivant Charity Golf Day.

This annual event is held in aid of South Gladstone Rotary Club's Community Chest.

The unusual auction item, donated by Keith Harris of Keith Harris Funerals, is a fully lined, rosewood flat lid coffin with gold trimming that has a "rest in peace" plaque on top and would normally retail for $1250.

Mr Harris has been a member of Rotary for a number of years and the business decided to donate the item as a way to give back and show support for the community.

There is also $2000 worth of prizes up for grabs for all the winners, and other auction items include an aerial photograph of Awoonga Dam, which was taken by Stephen Mills, a signed Broncos shirt and State of Origin memorabilia.

Registration fee for the golf day is $25 and the event is a three-person Ambrose with a 10am shotgun start. Nominations can be made through the Gladstone Golf Club on 4978 1200.
