Plans to light up Twin Towns with a permanent sparkle
TWEED Heads could become a new glitter strip - with plans to light up Twin Towns Services Club.
General manager Rob Smith said the club was seeking council approval to project iconic images onto their building - as well as installing a permanent light-up "shimmer".
The casino-style features would be in line with the Tweed Chamber of Commerce's plan to improve the gateway locations along the border, Mr Smith said.
A clear statement would help visitors understand when they were entering NSW.
"The intention would be to have a 10 to 15 minute display of iconic NSW images on the hour," he said.
The building would ideally be home to a sparkly light show between photo projections.
"The opportunities there are really quite amazing.
"We hope that for the 2015 centenary dawn service, we can project images of Gallipoli."
The ideas were partly inspired by Sydney's Vivid Festival and the possibilities would be endless.
A large portion of the photographic projections would likely include iconic images from Destination NSW, he said.
The club would also consider hosting exhibits, as other regions have done with photography festivals.
"We're certainly looking for all sorts of opportunities.
"There's no need for it all to be the same."
He was confident the light show additions would truly add something to the NSW border.
While the state border at Wharf St did have a monument, not many visitors knew where it was until they got up close, he said.
