Projects' approval will boost city

THE Gold Coast City Council planning committee today endorsed four major projects that are being described by council as big economic boosts to the city.

Mayor Ron Clarke said the meeting, where the $1billion Jewel development and the other major projects were given the green light, was his most important one during his eight years in the job.

Cr Clarke said it was a boost to the economy and exactly what the Gold Coast needed following the successful Commonwealth Games bid.

"Jewel, in particular, is the right project at exactly the right time," he said.

"It is undoubtedly the most exciting beachfront design ever to come to the Gold Coast.

"It will deliver a $1 billion benefit to the city, is an outstanding design and emphasises the importance of our beach culture as part of the Gold Coast experience."

The recommendations from the committee meeting will be considered for approval when the council meet on Monday.
