Public transport fares increase

COMMUTERS on Surfside buses need to add saving to their new year resolutions as fares on public transport set to rise.

TransLink is raising its prices by 15% on January 2.

People travelling from Tweed to Surfer Paradise will have to find an extra $1.20 for a single ticket with prices rising from $7.70 to $8.90

In a statement, TransLink said the rise in price was necessary because the increase in South East Queensland's population requires an expansion to the public transport network.

One project included in the expansion will be a review of the Gold Coast services as work begins on the coast's light rail project.
