Putting the cabaret in Cabarita
CABARITA will get a little bit raunchy when it hosts a cabaret show next weekend.
Cabarita resident Alice Lanesbury has joined forces with friend and fellow internationally-experienced dancer Sarah Jane, from Burleigh Heads, for the show.
Ms Lanesbury said they’d never organised an event like this before, and had pulled it together in just a few months.
The show will be divided into three ‘acts’.
“We’re hiring three other artists from Brisbane who are going to be in the show,” Ms Lanesbury said.
“This is the first time (for the venue) but I think it’s a first for Cabarita as well.”
She said the dinner and show set-up would be broken into separate acts, so the audience could enjoy the food and the company as well as the talent.
“We’re doing it in three acts just so people have a chance to talk and socialise and enjoy each other’s company,” she said.
“At some shows you can’t do that because there’s something happening all the time.”
Ms Lanesbury said the first act would be inspired by the 1972 film Cabaret as well as the 2010 musical Burlesque.
“The second act is very Moulin Rouge,” Ms Lanesbury said.
“But there’s no nudity or anything in the show.”
She said the third and final act was a Las Vegas-inspired performance.
“I think it’s very (inspired by) musical theatre which we both enjoy,” she said.
“I just think it really adds some culture to the community.
“I think it’s good to come back and bring something back (to Cabarita).
“It’s kind of cool to come back and put something on here.”
