MP: Election announcement soon
THE Currumbin state MP expects the Queensland Government to announce an election date before the end of the month.
Jann Stuckey said she expected a quiet start to 2012 but electioneering had kept her busy.
"There is a strong suggestion that an election date will be declared next week or the week after," she said.
"The election needs to be held by June and with the council election in March and then Easter it doesn't leave much time."
Ms Stuckey has "hit the ground running" this year with an attack on the Queensland Government over the handling of a proposed quarry in Tallebudgera Valley.
"This is yet another display of Labor's absolute indifference to proper community involvement when it comes to planning and consulting on major infrastructure projects," Ms Stuckey said.
"It's time for a change. Not Labor, not this time."
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh would not be drawn into speculation on an election date.
"This year is a big year for Queensland. We'll have state and local government elections," Ms Bligh said.
"There'll be plenty of opportunity for politics throughout 2012.
"But this week I think is a time to remember what we've been through (with the South East Queensland floods), a time to let those families who've lost people to mourn and to pay due respect to what happened across our state.
"So I don't intend to get into political speculation this week.
"There's plenty of time for that later on."
Ms Bligh said everyone in politics should be respectful of what people will be going through this week.
