QLD weather: We're in for another wet week

Claudia Baxter

DON'T count on dry feet just yet - there are more showers on the way.

Although the worst of the rain fell over the weekend and yesterday, the state's southeast should stay damp for the rest of the week.

More than 60mm fell in Brisbane yesterday while the rain gauge reached 100mm at Upper Springbrook on the Gold Coast.

At least 135mm also hit Sarichs, south of Townsville, and Rathdowney, south of Brisbane, was drenched by 109mm.

And at least 150mm of rain has fallen in Brisbane since the start of the month, exceeding the March average of 142.9mm.

Falls in the southeast are expected to peter out over the next few days, but isolated falls of up to 100mm are forecast to affect the coastline between Mackay and Yappoon.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Janine Yuasa said the rainy conditions were not unusual for this time of year.

"March can be quite wet around Queensland," she said.

"It might seem unusual because we've had a very dry summer leading up to this."

Ms Yuasa said a moist onshore flow and a trough in the upper level of the atmosphere were to blame for the wet conditions across most of the state.

The weather bureau is also warning of potentially humid conditions.
