'Queen' opens croquet

THE Murwillumbah Croquet Club held an International Day represented by Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom on Wednesday, September 30.

There were 50 players and it was a fantastic day of serious and fun competition between countries.

The highlight of the day was a visit from the 'Queen' to open the games.

There to welcome her were host and hostess, the club captain looking very dapper in a suit and his 'wife', committee member Shirley Fredericks, also looking charming dressed in her best.

The 'Queen' (aka Chris Jones from Tweed Heads Club) was just brilliant.

With the correct royal wave and accent she stole the hearts of all assembled and not only opened the games but also played in her long dress in them.

It was a great day and more so when in the final count Australia was the winner.
