Queensland is ahead by a cat's whisker

IF LOOKS are anything to go by, Queensland is about to sink its teeth on another State of Origin win.

Mascot Dexter has his eye on a fifth win in a row for RSPCA's annual State of Adoption campaign as it comes to a head tomorrow.

The challenge sees animal care refuges compete to re-home the most animal companions. The adoption tally stands at 1400 for Queensland and 1193 for New South Wales.

RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said another consecutive win looked promising for the four-legged maroon team.

"I think Queensland will win by a cat's whisker," he said. "That would be good considering Queensland has two less shelters than New South Wales."

RSPCA CEO Mark Townend encouraged potential pet owners to adopt from the welfare organisation rather than irresponsible breeders.

"Although it will be nice to beat Queensland on and off the field, the real prize is making people aware that there are thousands of animals who are in need of new, loving homes," the NSW supporter said.

"Both states will be winners if they manage to re-home more animals during this time."
