A RABBIT has made a stunning entry in to the Tweed Shire Election campaign race.

The fluffy white pet made a surprise cameo while mayor Barry Longland was shooting a campaign commercial, and the footage was uploaded to YouTube.

Councillor Longland said he had no fore-knowledge of the animal's presence when shooting the commercial.

"They smuggled the rabbit in when they were filming and it entered from stage left," Cr Longland said.

"I didn't know it was there".

While the rabbit pounced on the mayor mid-sentence, it appeared to be giving him more of a cuddle rather than subjecting him to a Monty Python And the Holy Grail-type attack.
