Man caught with sexual abuse images of toddlers in nappies

A MAN caught with an extensive collection of child pornography - including babies, toddlers in nappies and young children up to age seven - has escaped jail time.

Anthony John Dixon, 42, was caught with more than 35,000 child pornography images and almost 900 movies during a police raid at his Brisbane home in December last year.

Crown prosecutor Sandra Cupina told Brisbane District Court that about 58% of the movies, ranging from one minute to several minutes, were in the second worst category of offending, involving penetration.

She said there were 143 images and 13 movies involving sadism and bestiality, the latter involving a dog in one instance.

Defence barrister Greg McGuire said his client had taken big steps towards rehabilitation.

He said Dixon was already seeing a professional about his mental health before the raid and had since opened up about his attraction to child exploitation material.

The court heard Dixon, a public servant, had a history of marijuana problems and problems related to his childhood.

Dixon was sentenced to 18 months jail, wholly suspended for three years.
