Rain cancels Mur'bah race meet
TODAY'S Murwillumbah race meting been called off.
Northern Rivers Racing Association stewards made the decision after an official walk of the track yesterday afternoon.
The racecourse had received over 50mm of rain in the previous 72 hours.
Attention now turns to the Tweed River Jockey Club's upcoming meeting, next Monday's Casella Wines Yellowtail Cup race day, one of the club's regular early-year meetings.
A strong TAB program offers racing for thoroughbreds of all classes, including maiden runners with distances ranging from 1000m-2000m.
Nominations close with the trainers service centre tomorrow at 11am.
Jockey club chairman Bernie Quinn said he was bitterly disappointed by the recent weather which has brought racing to a standstill in parts of south-east Queensland and on the NSW side of the border in Murwillumbah.
"Our ground staff are doing everything possible, but you can't control the weather," Mr Quinn said.
"We are optimistic that weather patterns are on the improve and forecasts certainly seem to suggest that."
