Rain delays resealing works on major Tweed road
MOTHER Nature has put a dampener on the council's plans to reseal part of Tweed Valley Way this week.
The resealing of 1.5km of road near Tumbulgum was set to begin on Tuesday after a rain-induced delay.
However, Tweed Shire Council's senior construction engineer Nigel Dobson said rain predicted for this week would delay the works further.
Mr Dobson said the nature of the work and the steady flow of traffic would leave the road particularly sensitive to moisture.
"We have to try to get it all done very quickly," Mr Dobson said.
He said the reseal is now scheduled to start next Tuesday.
The works are predicted to take only two days, with an estimated cost of $90,000.
A council statement indicated the stretch of road - from Bartlet's Rd to Riverside Dr - was nearing the end of its lifespan.
As Tweed Valley Way is a main arterial road for the region, Mr Dobson said the council wouldn't commence work until it's dry enough to "get in and get out".
