Rain halts play at French Open

FOUL weather has halted Rafael Nadal's march towards a 10th French Open crown.

Officials waited for several hours as rain fell before deciding to postpone tournament favourite Nadal's quarter-final clash with Spanish compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta.

And the elements prevented the rematch from last year's semi-finals of defending champion Novak Djokovic and Austrian Dominic Thiem.

The change of schedule means there will be four men's quarters tonight, when Andy Murray will clash with Kei Nishikori and Stand Wawrinka faces Marin Cilic.

After nine days of perfect weather, strong wind and then rain caused women's quarters between Kiki Mladenovic and Timea Bacsinszky and Jelena Ostapenko and Caroline Wozniacki to be stopped.

Officials remain hopeful those matches can be completed today.

Several doubles, mixed doubles and junior matches were postponed until tomorrow.
