Rainfall recorders astounded
TWEED residents who recorded rain throughout the shire were astounded at the amount of rain that fell across the region on Wednesday.
Wal Smith, who keeps a record of daily rainfall in Tweed Heads, recorded 221mm in the 24 hours before 3pm Wednesday.
"This is the heaviest I have ever seen it and I have been recording rainfall for 10 or 11 years," Mr Smith said.
"I live on a canal here and with the king tides and the rain the water is as high as I have ever seen it too."
Mr Smith said he has recorded 305mm of rain in the last three days to Wednesday.
"We has 64mm yesterday (Tuesday) and 20mm the day before that," he said.
There was also 190mm recorded at Banora Point East, 221mm at Kingscliff and 225mm at Pottsville in the 24 hours period before 3pm Wednesday.
