Rates to rise over 7% in Tweed
RATES are expected to increase by more than 7% in this year's Tweed Shire council budget, according to a councillor.
Speaking before the Tweed District Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday morning, Councillor Warren Polglase said the council had already begun its budgeting process for 2012/13.
"We looking at about a 7.5% rates increase to maintain the services we provide," Cr Polglase said.
He said annual rates increase could return to between 3% and 4% by 2013/14.
Cr Polglase took the opportunity to give praise to retiring council general manager Mike Rayner, who he said had overseen "about $380 million in investment in the Tweed" during his time at the council.
