Ready to have a ball
FOOTBALL fanatics in Kingscliff have every reason to smile as they get their greatest fix of FIFA World Cup action as Kingscliff Beach Hotel beams live coverage.
The Hotel is bracing for football fever with special opening times for the event, which will include broadcasts of all of the opening ceremony, Australian matches, semi-finals and finals games.
Hotel licensee Chris Watson said the event would be a treat for fans and there would be drinks but also food available no matter what time of day.
“I know there are three games at 4am and they will all be featured on our 60 inch plasma television with surround sound from our lounge bar,” he said.
“There will be plenty of food, such as pizzas, hot dogs, bacon and eggs, as well as heaps of other things.”
Kingscliff Soccer Club approached the Hotel because demand had increased and they found cafe Kingscliff Zanzibar a little too small last year.
Vice-president Pete Gladwin said there had been discussions to watch the games at the clubhouse but it became a lot more practical to have it at the pub.
“Interest in the sport is growing and the more people sharing the experience the better,” he said.
“It’s one of those experiences which is magnified and enjoyed with people you do know but also those you might necessarily know.
“Everyone gets hooked on it and everyone experiences the highs but also the lows of the game... I can’t wait to watch it with my boys.”
Mr Watson said it was not only good for his business but it was a good opportunity for fans.
The opening ceremony will be broadcast live on SBS 10pm Friday.
Socceroos first game live on June 14 at 4am.
