Reality tv pair wins competition
MERMAID Waters couple Cameron and Shanina Connell have built a house from scratch in just 10 weeks and have won $50,000 doing it.
The couple starred on the Australian television series, From the Ground UP, and beat three other couples from Sydney, Melbourne and the Central Coast to take out the top cash prize and a new Isuzu DMax utility.
The couple won because their property increased the most in value by the end of 10 weeks.
But they said it wasn’t easy.
“We are passionate about property development outside of our full-time jobs so we were definitely up for the challenge,” Mrs Connell said.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be the winners.
“We had some very tough competition and all the other couples did amazing jobs on their homes.”
The couple revealed to the Gold Coast Mail in October they had a “real big chance of winning”, which turned out to be true.
The show involved the couples facing building challenges week by week, which gave them the opportunity to win value-add prizes for their homes.
It was filmed at Murrays Beach, on the shores of Lake Macquarie.
The Connells managed to win three of the tests, allowing them to add an outdoor kitchen, a garage up-grade and an outdoor lighting package.
The couple’s daughter, Chelsea, celebrated her second birthday on the set.
“We are extremely happy that our ideas and hard work paid off. We have really enjoyed the whole experience,” Mrs Connell said.
