Rebels boss loses last-ditch bid to return to Australia

REBELS Motorcycle Club president Alex Vella has lost his legal bid in the High Court to challenge the cancellation of his visa.

Mr Vella had enjoyed residency status in Australia for 46 years when his visa was withdrawn while he was on a trip to his birthplace, Malta, in June last year.

He has been stuck there since while his wife, children, grandchildren and mother live in Sydney. The national president of the Rebels since 1973, Mr Vella was denied a visa on character grounds.

The High Court action followed an unsuccessful challenge in the Federal Court in March.
