A record 600 swimmers try their luck at Cooly Classic

THE Cooly Classic ocean swim went off without a hitch today, with a record of over 600 swimmers turning up to try their luck.

Marcus Hall from Lawnton Swim Club took the overall win in the 2km swim with a time of 25:15.56 and Michael Klim came sixth, with a time of 27:05.60, doing quite well considering the short amount of time he had to train before the event.

Sarah Windsor took first in the women's 2km swim with a time of 28:19.96.

Weekend Warrior director John Guise said that the entrants who beat Klim would be excited to know they pipped an Olympic gold medallist to the post.

"It was great to see Michael Klim in the water having a swim," he said.

"He placed sixth, so quite good considering he came out of retirement recently.

"The guys who beat him will be happy knowing they beat an Olympic gold medallist, but they're all pretty fit and great swimmers."

Mr Guise said that conditions were great and the Cooly Classic was considered a complete success for organisers at Weekend Warrior Events.

"There was a brief shower, other than that conditions were excellent," he said.

"Typical Cooly weather really."
