Kindy kids in red to send message to Government

LACK of investment into early education by the State Government could lead to rural preschools having to close their doors.

Condong's Possums Preschool director Karen Shackell said the State Government was conducting a review that could result in funding cuts to children of three years education.

"The implications are potentially dire for children and their families," she said.

"This could see the closure of small rural preschools if the three year olds are excluded from the new funding model."

Yesterday, the preschool joined many in the state protesting against the proposed changes to funding of community based preschools.

This could see the closure of small rural preschools if the three year olds are excluded from the new funding model.

It was coined a Red Day Of Action.

Ms Shackell said 11 of their 19 students came in dressed in red, as did the staff and some parents.

"It was really great to see the support because this would be completely detrimental if it came in." she said.

"It's just not good enough that the NSW Government spends less on early education per child than any other state of territory.

"We need greater investment in our children."

Tyalgum and Chillingham Community Preschool also joinied with other early education and care services across NSW in the protest.
