Relay for Life team raises $5491 for a good cause

RELAY for Life 2012 kick-started the opening of a new Cancer Council Information Centre in the Tweed Hospital.

Supporting local schools to become sun smart, providing the Cancer Council Helpline (13 11 20) and enabling the continuity of the Legal and Financial Services Program are also feathers in the program hat.

And it's all set to start again.

Local team, Rush Slowly has already raised $1100.

At the 2012 event, teams set the fundraising stakes high.

But the team that came out on top was Southern Cross Credit Union, raising a total of $5491.

The recent launch of Relay for Life 2013 had Tweed deputy mayor Michael Armstrong praising organisers.

"The Relay for Life is an important community event," he said.

"It raises much needed funds to assist the Cancer Council in their work, as well as raising community awareness.

"Events like the Relay for Life only occur through the dedication and hard work of the organisers and their committee."

The 2013 Relay for Life will be held over March 23 and 24.
