Tribute to Korean War vets

PREPARATIONS are under way for this year’s Remembrance Day services in Murwillumbah which will include a special tribute to men and women who served in the Korean War.

Murwillumbah RSL sub-branch president Derek Sims said to mark the occasion a plaque would be unveiled by former Commanding Officer of the 41st Battalion RNSWR, Colonel Tom Harwood AO.

“The pupils of Murwillumbah Public School have been asked by local veterans and the public to conduct the service for the second year in a row,” said Mr Sims.

“The pupils will be under the guidance of their music teacher Vicki Armour.”

Mr Sims said the music for this year’s service would be provided by the Murwillumbah High School Band.

He said all men and women who served in Korea are invited to join in a get-together at the Murwillumbah Services Club after the Remembrance Day Service.

The service is to commence at 10.45am on November 11 at the Murwillumbah War Memorial in front of the Tweed Shire Council chambers.

Anyone with information on local men or women who served in Korea are asked to contact the RSL Sub Branch on (02) 6672 1388 or Derek Sims on (02) 6672 1498.
