Renovation fairytale: The Block auctions break TV records
AFTER a disappointing auction fizzer last season, The Block has bounced back with a $3m windfall.
The four teams that spent 10 weeks renovating four luxury townhouses in South Yarra earned the sum, the largest ever won on a TV program worldwide according to Channel 9.
All-stars Deanne and Darren earned the ultimate redemption after earning just $10,000 at their Block Glasshouse auction.
The Melbourne couple won the show's $10,000 after earning the largest profit of the evening, $835,000, bringing the parents close to being millionaires.

The auctions got off to a record-breaking start with Tim and Anastasia making $150,000 within seconds.
Minutes later they went from owing The Block host Scott Cam $20,000 to making a whopping $755,000 profit, the biggest in the show's history at that point.
Anastasia thanked Cam for his support and kind words in convincing them to come back to the show after they nearly threw in the towel last week.

Jess and Ayden were the next team whose townhouse went under the hammer.
The parents went into the show hoping they could afford the $250,000 it would take to build a house on their land in the Gold Coast hinterland.
They made more than that in the first bid and, to quote Scott Cam, they can now afford the house, a pool, a family holiday and more with their $665,000 profit.

"You've absolutely just changed our lives," Jess said.
She and Ayden will be seen in Nine's new series Renovation Rumble, which debuts against House Rules on Tuesday.
All-stars Deanne and Darren quickly broke Tim and Anastasia's short-lived record during the third auction.
"I'm speechless for the first time ever," Deanne said.
Young Sydneysiders Josh and Charlotte were the final team and came close to beating the all-stars, pocketing a cool $810,000 profit.
After joking about having less than $1000 in her bank account, Charlotte and chippie Josh can now afford Sydney's expensive property market.
