Residents' Area E fears

TERRANORA residents want more time to make submissions to council about the future of Area E.

Tweed Shire Council has earmarked the site, between Terranora Rd and the Broadwater, for 1799 homes.

But residents are concerned the public consultation was rushed and a proposed road contravenes the council’s own planning scheme.

The road in dispute would connect Terranora Rd and Fraser Dr.

Robert Eyre has lived in Fraser Dr for 35 years and would lose his home if the proposed arterial road was built to connect Area E.

“This road does not meet their design requirements,” Mr Eyre said.

“Last week the council refused to extend the submission date for public feedback on the plan.”

Mr Eyre said he felt the council was ignoring the Terranora residents.

“We have been to three public consultation meetings,” he said.

“We say the road doesn’t have to go through there, they have other options. But they don’t listen.”

Mr Erye sent a letter to all the councillors inviting them to inspect the area where the proposed road would be built. Mayor Kevin Skinner visited the site with Mr Eyre last week.

Cr Skinner and the council were unavailable for comment yesterday.
