Another frigid start to the day as temps drop below zero
COLD temperatures again made it difficult for tradesmen and other early starters to get out of bed this morning.
At 5.30am the apparent temperature was a frigid 0.8 degrees.
The actual temperature was 4.6 degrees.
Forecasters expect today to be warmer than yesterday, with the mercury set to reach 21 degrees.
There was an extra need for heaters and blankets yesterday as Toowoomba residents shivered through the coldest May morning in 15 years.
Residents awoke to an apparent temperature yesterday of -3.3 degrees at 7am.
It was not until 10am that the mercury finally made its way to more than one degree, eventually reaching a maximum of 14 degrees.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Adam Blazak said the city reached an official minimum of 2.2 degrees at 6.30am.
"This is eight degrees below average," he said.

Records show that a temperature of -1.8 degrees was recorded on May 24, 1978 at the now defunct Toowoomba post office site.
"There is a large high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight which is pushing cold air from down south," Mr Blazak said.
He said the apparent temperature dropped so low because of the low humidity and the wind.
The weather is expected to warm up over the next few days with milder minimum temperatures of 11 and 12 degrees.
