Residents try luck at $70m lotto

NEWSAGENCIES across the Tweed had customers lining up out the doors to get their piece of a $70 million lotto jackpot pie.

The mammoth Oz Lotto draw is on tonight (Tuesday, May 8) and many people were leaving it to the 11th hour to get their numbers.

Tweed City News was busy most of the morning selling tickets in the lead up to tonight's draw.

Tatts Lotteries' spokeswoman Elissa Lewis said the group expected a last minute rush for tickets.

"This is the first time we have offered a $70 million division one Oz Lotto prize pool and it is the biggest prize pool on offer since 2009," Ms Lewis said.

"The highest record jackpot occurred in 2009 when Oz Lotto jackpotted to $106.5 million. There were two winners, one from South Australia and one from Queensland, who each won a $53.27 million share in the record jackpot," she said.

The $70 million jackpot is the result of eight weeks of no division one winners.
