Retro fashion making a comeback
RETRO fashion is making a comeback, thanks to the popular television series Mad Men.
The series about the golden days of American advertising and society in New York City is inspiring people to embrace fashion from the 1950s.
Toowoomba's Nerida Tupas, owner of Oldfangled beauties and a fan of 1950s fashion herself, said a growing number of people were coming into her store looking for retro fashion.
"The styles have been around for ages, but shows like this (Mad Men) are just opening it up for people who would have never thought about it before," she said.
She said many people had started using the show for inspiration for dress-up parties, but had realised they could incorporate the style into their everyday wardrobes.
"Just add a pair of heels, mix and match; there are no rules.
"The quality and design of these pieces are so classic and work so well, they deserve to come back."
Ms Tupas said most of the pieces in her wardrobe and store came from Toowoomba's op shops.
"They're easy to find if you know what you're looking for," she said.
