RIO 2016: Fraser stays in contention for golf medal

GOLF: Australia's Marcus Fraser is still in the hunt for an Olympic medal despite a one-over 73 in the third round of the Rio Olympics tournament.

Fraser is in the bronze medal position on -9under trailing Britain's Justin Rose (-12) by three shots and British Open winner Henrik Stenson (-11) by two.

Rose shot a six-under 65 to grab the outright lead with th three to play together in the last group on Monday morning (AEST).

American Bubba Watson (-6), who carded a 67, is closest to Fraser in the race for the medals.

The overnight leader at -10, Fraser struggled with the wind at Marapendi.

"I felt a little bit scrappy out there,” he said.

"The wind direction didn't really suit me to be honest.

"It made some of those holes pretty long and I couldn't even reach some of the par-fours.

"But I was a little bit off and when you are a little way off in these conditions, on this golf course, it feels (like) you are a long way off.”

Fraser's teammate, Scott Hend, is on +1 for the tournament.
