Rising star likes to play his best

RISING star Liam Anderson won the Northern Rivers District Golf Association junior championship at Byron Bay recently.

The 14-year-old Coolangatta Tweed Heads Golf Club member scored 117 over 27 holes at Byron Bay Golf Club to beat local hope Blake Turner (121).

Liam started the day well but put some pressure on himself by shooting a few bogeys. He came back by scoring a strong 38 on the back nine to take the event.

“I was feeling pretty confident when I went there, then once I stepped up to the tee I put it all together, which was really good,” Liam said.

Liam had to leave the golf course before the results were announced and was overjoyed when his father got a call later in the day informing him of the win.

Liam said he ranked the Northern River Golf Championship highly in his list of competition results, but this ambitious teenager plans to have plenty more.

“I want to be on the US Tour before I am 22 and make a career out of golf, hopefully winning majors and stuff,” he said.

“I just enjoy the competitions and coming back to the clubhouse having done my best and sometimes coming away with a win.”

The Robina State High School student said his coaches, David Nable and Shane Stevenson, were helping him improve his game through the school's golf program.

He also thanked Darren Tonkin from the CTHGC for his help.
