Road closures, events, DAs and alerts all on Council App

TWEED Shire Council has bounded into the 21st century with a free smartphone app.

Available from the Apple Store or Google Play, the comprehensive app includes road closure information, development application details, a calendar of events and emergency contact information.

"Smartphones are an increasingly popular channel for our customers to access information - providing a range of information and services they want, when they need it," Council's acting general manager Troy Green said.

"With council's new website due to be launched later this year, these improvements are all part of providing greater customer service to our community.

"The usage statistics for our App show the alerts and services and development assessment tracking functions are the most popular. This is followed by council information including contact numbers, meeting dates, councillor details and council's calendar of events."

Mr Green said the Report a Problem feature on the app was a great tool to let council know about relevant community concerns.

"A new feature which we will be promoting more of over the next few months is the Report a Problem which allows customers to help council by reporting their concerns such as animals, potholes, graffiti and more," he said.

Due to the implementation of the new app council will retire its SMS information service.
