Road spikes end pursuit
A HIGH-speed pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle on the Pacific Hwy was bought to a sudden conclusion on Saturday night when police used road spikes to stop the utility.
According to Tweed police, highway patrol noticed a suspicious vehicle travelling south on the highway near Chinderah at 11.40pm.
Tweed police Inspector Darren Steel said when the vehicle failed to stop there was a high-speed pursuit south until the vehicle exited the highway at Clothiers Creek Rd.
"The vehicle then rejoined the highway travelling north," Insp Steel said.
Insp Steel said road spikes were deployed near the tunnel at Duranbah and the vehicle was disabled.
According to police reports, the pursuit lasted 12 minutes.
The driver, a 36-year-old man from Murgon, was arrested following the pursuit for failing to stop (Skye's Law), exceeding the speed limit by more than 40kmh, as well as charges relating to stolen property from Queensland.
The driver was also charged with further offences when a man was found on the back of the utility.
The 52-year-old man in the cargo area of the utility was arrested for travelling in a suspected stolen vehicle.
A 34-year-old Cherbourg woman who was a passenger in the vehicle was also arrested.
