Robber hits cash store
POLICE are searching for the man responsible for an attempted armed robbery in Tweed Heads yesterday afternoon.
Just before 4pm the man, believed to be aged in his twenties, entered a Wharf St store and threatened two female employees claiming he had a firearm and demanding cash.
The man was last seen leaving the Wharf St premises just after 4pm.
Tweed police Inspector Greg Jago said neither of the employees sighted a weapon and the offender left empty-handed.
He said numerous police attended the crime scene in an attempt to locate and identify the offender.
The two female employees were noticeably distressed, but otherwise unharmed, and were assisting police with their investigation.
The offender was described as Caucasian, in his early twenties with a medium build and short moustache.
He was wearing dark long pants and a black hoodie.
Police were notified of a possible sighting of the man in Tweed Heads about 6pm, however, this sighting had not been confirmed at the time of going to print and investigations were continuing.
The incident sits at the bottom of a long list of unsolved armed robberies throughout the Gold Coast and Tweed area.
Insp Jago said it was too early to confirm if the incident was linked to other incidents, including Monday's armed robbery of a Murwillumbah credit union.
