Robber paid his rent and bought pyjamas for mum

A MAN accused of robbing a Rockhampton building society went and bought his mum $12 pyjamas from K mart after his alleged crime.

And, police claim, he went straight from the crime scene at the Rock Building Society to the post office, where he paid $1100 towards his rent.

Lawrence Michael Williams, 44, was granted bail when he faced Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Friday.

Police prosecutor, Snr Const Shaun Janes, told the court Williams allegedly entered the building society about 2pm Thursday and gave a teller a note that read "Smile, you're on camera … don't do anything stupid".

He allegedly asked the teller for $10,000 cash in $100 notes.

It was alleged the teller told Williams she only had $4450, which she gave to him in an envelope.

After Mr Williams visited K mart, he allegedly went to a tobacco store and bought cigarettes, before police swooped and arrested him.

Snr Const Janes said Williams told police he committed the alleged crime simply because he had no money.
