Police release footage of robbery

POLICE have released CCTV footage of two men believed to have robbed a Cabarita bottleshop and assaulted the attendant.

Two men allegedly entered the bottle shop on Coast Road at Bogangar about 7.30pm on January 5.

The store attendant told police the men left the store without paying for alcohol.

When the attendant challenged the men outside the store he was attacked and suffered cuts to his face and was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital.

The first person was described as being in his early 20s, of Caucasian appearance and 175cm tall, with a muscular build, and short brown hair.

He was wearing a green-coloured singlet with the number five on the front and back, red or maroon football shorts, baseball cap, and no shoes.

The second person was described as also being in his early 20s, of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall and medium build, medium-length dark hair, wearing a white t-shirt and light blue denim shorts.

Tweed/Byron Local Area Command Crime Manager Detective Inspector Shane Diehm said he was sure someone in the local community would be able to help police.

“This was an unnecessarily violent incident with a store attendant needing hospital treatment after the assault,” Det Insp Diehm said.

Phone Tweed Heads Police on 07 5536 0999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if you have information which could help police in this matter.
