Roberts starts council campaign
TWEED Shire Council candidate Eddie Roberts said he needed more of a profile in coastal towns if his bid to become a councillor was to be successful.
Mr Roberts' started his campaign on Thursday night with a launch and fundraiser at Regent Cinema in Murwillumbah.
He said up to 150 people were at the theatre.
But the Uki resident was well aware that he was a well-known identity in the Tweed Valley compared to the coast.
"I've definitely got to get down to the coast," Mr Roberts said.
One policy of Tweed Respect was to limit coastal development.
"They (big developments) are a dead-end, one-way street and there is no turning around when you reach the end," he said.
Mr Roberts said he was not trying to take votes away from mayor Barry Longland despite both coming from Uki.
"I would like to see Barry get back in and I have told him such."
Mr Longland has not committed to contesting the Tweed Shire Council elections in September.
