Roberts to launch campaign
A CANDIDATE for the Tweed Shire Council elections is launching his campaign in Murwillumbah tonight.
Eddie Roberts will announce his candidacy at a fundraiser at Regent Cinema tonight.
Mr Roberts is the lead candidate of Tweed Respect with Scott Sledge, Tim O'Hara and Tracey Stride also on the ticket.
"I am a builder of quality things, sensitive to the environment and to society," Mr Roberts said.
"I want to leave the planet a better place for my children and grandchildren.
"My commitment to run for council stems from a deep desire to work towards a safe, healthy and productive future for us all."
Eddie Roberts moved to the Tweed in 2001.
He is a member of the Uki Residents Association. In 2008 he facilitated Uki's Sustainability Project as part of the Caldera Economic Transition Plan and in the following year was voted Uki Volunteer of the Year.
This event is the first of several fundraisers and will include the screening of the premier of The Lady: The story of Aung San Suu Kyi at 6pm at the Regent Cinema.
Tweed Respect was running on policies of maintaining the moratorium on Byrrill Creek Dam, banning coal seam gas, controls on coastal development and supporting business through work with the chambers of commerce.
