Rock wall work starts next week

TWEED Shire Council is racing again time and tide to build a rock wall to protect the remainder of Kingscliff's foreshore.

In an extraordinary council meeting today, the council awarded Boral Construction the contract to build the rock wall.

The decision was made so the work could start straight after the NSW Surf Life Saving Championships to ensure the three-week project was finished before the expected king tides at Easter.

Tweed Shire Council spokesman said the project would start Monday with 6300 tonnes of rock brought in to fill the gap in the wall between the surf club and the Kingscliff Bowls Club.

The project is costing the Tweed Coast Holiday Parks Reserve Trust $440,000.
