Roll up for biggest skate comp
SKATEBOARD riders will be able to show off their skills whilst competing with fellow skateboarders at the seventh annual Beachside Skate Competition this Saturday.
The competition, which attracts around 300 people annually from across the Tweed, Gold Coast, Lismore and Ballina, was started to support the desire of youths to make skateboarding a serious sport.
Competition coordinator and Pastor of Beachside Church at Pottsville, Allan Pillay, said this was a community event and was a partnership project between the Tweed Shire Council, Beachside Church, St Joseph's Youth Service and local skate shops, and made possible by the generous support from local businesses.
"Beachside Church has been overwhelmed by the support of the Tweed community, schools, churches, businesses, skate and surf shops and Tweed Shire and is grateful to all for their valuable support, we are expecting this to be the best competition ever," he said.
The main prize will be an electric skate board donated by Fiik Electric Skateboards, valued at $450 with prizes and freebies for all competitors including a lucky draw where one person will win an iPad.
The event caters for young people of all ages and will be held at the Cabarita Skate Park, with an entry fee of $10 for all competitors, offering music and other fun activities for the entire family starting at 9am.
