Keep on rolling for kids' ward

THE Derby Brats' Give Me Five For Kids fundraising is rollin' strong.

Coach Chris Booker said it was her second year raising money for her local children's ward, but the six-to-17-year-old Epic Skate Tweed Heads South roller derby group was only formed early this year.

“It's hard to say how much we've raised because we simply collect money in tins and give it to Gold FM,” Ms Booker said.

“I'd estimate we've already raised a few hundred, if not $1000.”

Ms Booker, – derby name “Maxi-Mum Damage” – said she and her 18-year-old daughter Renee – aka “Chaos Control” – had been participating in roller derby for more than two years.

Her children have never had serious health issues, but Ms Booker said, as a mum, she wanted to help, as did the rest of the Brats.

“We're all very keen to give kids a fighting chance to spend less time in hospital or, at the least, make their time in hospital more comfortable.”

To find out where the Brats' tins are located or make a direct donation to their cause, contact Ms Booker on 0413 978 369.
