Roma forum to look at coal seam gas rights for landholders

LANDHOLDERS on the Darling Downs concerned about the expansion of coal seam gas on their land can attend a public legal forum in Roma on Wednesday.

Run by Shine Lawyers' legal partner Peter Shannon, the forum will cover landholders' rights and compensation entitlements.

It will also focus on CSG company tactics, legal issues, water bores and how to make good arrangements and long-term protection for properties.

Mr Shannon said the forum provided a chance for landholders to understand their legal rights when negotiating with CSG companies.

"It is extremely difficult for landholders to deal with resource companies alone," he said.

"Furthermore, communicating and negotiating with mining companies can be like learning Mandarin - it's important that landholders have assistance clarifying and negotiating with industry.

"We hope to give landholders insights into the key issues and how to deal with them. Forewarned is forearmed."

As well as Mr Shannon, who is a specialist in such negotiations, the forum will includes speakers on law, tax and land valuation.

The forum will be held from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Wednesday as Roma Explorers Inn, 44778 Warrego Hway, Roma.
