Ron is building on villa success

IT was a case of building on previous success for a Tweed company that has won a state award for a Byron Bay-villa development.

Ron Sutton Building principal Ron Sutton, from Murwillumbah, won the townhouse/villa development at the HIA CSR NSW housing awards.

The win comes two months after both Ron Sutton Building and another Tweed-based builder, Hammerhead Building Projects, won multiple categories at the HIA Gold Coast/Northern Rivers awards.

Judges picked over the entries finally awarding Ron Sutton top honours because of the standard of workmanship and attention to detail in the carpentry and joinery.

"That's what they wanted to see," Mr Sutton said.

"It was a competitive field.

"Winners of the regionals went into the state awards but all the entries were re-assessed."

Mr Sutton said the award was testament to the work done by his builders.

"It's always been our intention to put as much quality into our work as we can," he said.

HIA NSW executive director David Bare said it was good to see a quality field, despite challenging market conditions.

"The high standard of entries shows that support for these awards has yet again been remarkable.

"Each year the bar is raised higher, making the judging all the more difficult."

Winners of the state awards will be entered into next year's HIA national awards.
