Round Mountain Girls descend on Kingscliff

POPULAR Tweed Coast band Round Mountain Girls will play at the Kingscliff Hotel on Saturday, featuring a new single and their new drummer.

Fiddle player Rabbit Robinson said it would be the first Kingscliff gig for the band's new drummer, the internationally-acclaimed Francois De Klerk, from South Africa.

"It'll be the first time he's played at Kingscliff Beach Hotel," Robinson said.

The band's last show there, in November, drew a big crowd and Robinson hoped for a repeat of that this weekend.

"Last time we played there it was a huge event with a whole bunch of people," he said.

"This Saturday night is going to be even bigger.

"Francois is an amazing drummer and he's taken the band to new heights and adding his own flare."

De Klerk had a local debut with the band at a recent community hall show in Stokers Siding.

Along with performing across the country, Round Mountain Girls has just released the film clip to their new single, Constant Rhythms.

Robinson said the song, which features country singer and Radio National presenter Felicity Urquhart, was about "love and devotion".

"We're getting a really good response to the song and the video clip."

He said the film clip was created from a range of recording and live performances, but some other local faces and places also make an appearance.

"It's mostly a compilation of footage of us recording in the studio and playing live at a few different festivals," he said.

"There's some some footage of Felicity down in Sydney."

Anyone who has seen Round Mountain Girls live will know their sets can be wild and unruly.

Anyone who hasn't should check it out for themselves.

The band plays a host of original songs, along with some covers.

"We do a lot of different stuff, from classical to Wolfmother," Robinson said.

"Every show is different and every show has some... surprises, even for me."

He said some of the band's fans would travel long distances from places like Toowoomba to try to see all of their shows.

"I've had people say they've planned their holidays to get to a show," Robinson said.
