Sand dune collapse traps boy

A YOUNG boy is lucky to be alive after a sand dune collapsed on him today at Kingscliff Beach.

A New South Wales Ambulance spokeswoman said the boy, believed to be 10 years old, became trapped in rocks and sand just north of the Kingscliff Coastguard tower about noon.

Paramedics, with the assistance of Tweed District Rescue Squad volunteers and police, were able to free the boy after about 30 minutes.

"He was treated by paramedics and he's fine," the spokeswoman said.

"He did not need to go to hospital."
