Massive sand shifts bring the beach back to Kingscliff
IF sand is what you are looking for Kingscliff has plenty of it at the moment.
While Gold Coast beaches suffer erosion issues the Northern NSW surf town has seen a massive shift in sand over the past few months.
Not that long ago there was no sand at all in front of Cudgen Surf Club, a stark contrast to what can be seen today.
These days on a low tide swimmers and surfers can expect to walk up to 70m to get the water's edge.
Kingscliff High School teacher and lifesaver Kevin Watler has seen sand deposits change many times over the years.
"It is great the sand is back and the beach is safe, there are good banks for the local surfers as well," Mr Watler said.
A rowdy bunch of kids, accompanied by Mr Watler, were excited to get out in the waves and sample the sand bank out the front of the surf club.
Student Taylor Dorrant said it was great to be able to surf out the front of the club again after having to resort to other locations previously.
Mr Watler also made a point of saying the money Tweed Shire Council had put into fixing the severe erosion issue, along with a natural shift in sand, had brought back ideal swimming and surfing conditions for the public.
