Scheme to deliver 232 affordable homes to Gladstone

GLADSTONE residents who are eligible under the National Rental Affordability Scheme can look forward to 232 new dwellings becoming available from the second half of the year.

Housing and Public Works Minister Tim Mander said, in his response to a Question without Notice tabled in State Parliament this week, the new dwellings were being delivered under the State Government's Housing 2020 Strategy.

"There are 262 dwellings currently approved under the National Rental Affordability Scheme in the Gladstone electorate," he said.

"Thirty dwellings had been delivered as of November 30, 2013.

"Eight of these dwellings have been completed with the remaining 232 expected to be completed by June.

"I am advised that 143 of these dwellings are under construction."

Mr Mander said the Department of Housing and Public Works had no plans to acquire any of the dwellings in any of the three Gladstone affordable housing projects currently being constructed.

There are currently 216 households on the waiting list for affordable housing in Gladstone.

The State Government's Housing 2020 Strategy will provide 12,000 affordable dwellings across Queensland.
