School gets a sound boost
HEARING impaired students at Fingal Head Public School have been given the chance to listen.
The Quota Club of Tweed Heads Coolangatta provided the school with $2450 to buy a RedCat Amplification system, which helps students with hearing difficulties.
The system is in use in the year two, three and four classroom and teacher Janelle Kirk said it was a welcome gift.
“This is the first time we have ever had access to one, there is a child who has hearing difficulty and it is in his classroom,” Ms Kirk said.
“The system amplifies your voice, in the classroom it's almost like surround sound
“It's been fantastic, Quota covered the cost of it and they held a special fundraiser just for us
“They knew about our need so they have worked towards this as a team.”
Ms Kirk said the students had responded well to the new system.
“The child who has hearing problems doesn't have to sit in the front anymore, he can be further back near his peers,” Ms Kirk said.
“It's also been fantastic for children for their spelling, just being able to hear sounds in words.”
Ms Kirk thanked the Quota Club of Tweed Heads Coolangatta for its work.
“We appreciate the efforts and support of Quota because they saw a need in our school
“There is no other way we would have been able to afford it.”
