School kids hit the airwaves at MEPS FM

STUDENTS at Murwillumbah East Public School were hitting the airwaves this week as part of their creative writing curriculum.

MEPS FM has been broadcasting school news, advertisements by senior students and songs within the school at lunchtime for their adoring audience of peers.

Current presenters Ava Manuel and Cameron Scholes were all smiles when they took the helm of MEPS FM and noticed they were getting a lot of positive support from fellow students.

Murwillumbah east teacher Vanessa Chaffey said the broadcasts were focused on getting the kids excited about creative and persuasive writing.

"Basically it began to provide the kids a space for them to show the advertisements they created. And to create a platform for their creative writing," she said.

"We started our first radio station last week and the kids are working super quick right now so they can have a go."

The dedicated teacher said she was looking to make learning a fun experience and thought the program was going well.

"You find that when you get that passion created and get them interested, it makes it fun for the kids," she said.

"It's just been great."

New broadcasts will be played at lunchtime on a weekly basis as the teams of students finish their advertisements.
