Scorchers dare to go against the Stars without Shaun Marsh

IF losing their first-round clash to Adelaide at the WACA wasn't bad enough, the Perth Scorchers will go into tonight's clash against the Melbourne Stars without in-form opening batsman Shaun Marsh.

Marsh, who hit a polished 57 off 45 balls against the Strikers, is tipped to miss this game at the WACA with a hamstring injury.

And with Mike Hussey to join the Australian Test team in Hobart, former Scorchers skipper Marcus North is set for a recall.

Just 12 months ago North led his side to the final in BBL 01, but was dropped from the game against the Strikers.

The former Australian Test batsman will be desperate to prove his doubters wrong.

The Stars, pre-tournament favourites, will still be smarting after their eight-wicket hammering against cross-town rivals the Renegades last Friday night.

The Victorian outfit is set to name key allrounder Glenn Maxwell, who missed the opening round because he played in the Chairman's XI v Sri Lanka game at Canberra's Manuka Oval.

Stars coach Greg Shipperd said he was confident his side could respond from its poor showing against the Renegades.

"There's no panic," he said.

"It's a pretty unique ground, Perth, and we'll have combinations that can cover the wicket in both eventualities, whether there's life in it, or it looks like it could be a dry one."

The Shane Warne v Herschelle Gibbs battle is sure to be a memorable one, with a miked-up Warne telling his viewers how he would get Gibbs out last summer, and delivering on that just moments later.
